300+ websites worldwide defaced - July 1998

300 sites including those for The World Cup, Wimbledon, the Ritz Casino, actress Drew Barrymore, and the Saudi Royal Family.

EFFECT OF ATTACKS:
Defacement

ALLEGED ATTACKERS:
JF, 18-year old member of a cracker group Milw0rm

TYPE OF ATTACK:
Defacement

ATTACK SPECIFICS:
All sites were hosted on the same ISP.

EVENT DESCRIPTION:
Internet political protest (anti-nuclear) defaced more than 300 websites, replacing the landing pages with a mushroom cloud and anti-nuclear essay. Sites don't appear to have been targeted; the event was rather an opportunistic protest.
